Chelsea’s pursuit of Frenkie De Jong is turning into almost as long a saga as Manchester United’s preceding pursuit of the midfielder.
At first we were just opportunistically following up on United’s failure to persuade him to join, and Barcelona’s desperation to sell. But now it seems like we’re really sold on the opportunity to sign him.
The latest news from Catalonia this afternoon is that Todd Boehly contacted him directly to try and persuade him of how keen Chelsea were to sign him.
El nuevo propietario del Chelsea, Tod Boehly, llamó personalmente a Frenkie de Jong hace varios días.
El neerlandés escuchó y reiteró su deseo de cumplir su contrato con el Barça.

It seems it didn’t work – the report says that De Jong remains determined to see out his contract in Barcelona. But it’s said that “despite the no”, Chelsea will keep pushing.
He’s a great player and would make this team better, but we’re well stocked in central midfield now, and we hope we’re not going to get sucked in to chasing this shiny object when there are still big gaps in this team.
