Chelsea have finally made official the signing of teenage goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire, with the club confirming the deal on their official website today.
The 18 year old wonderkid has been starter for the Fire all season, and will stay there until the end of MLS, arriving at Chelsea to join his new teammates in January.
We would expect several further loans – potentially in European football – to follow that. A 6 year long contract ensures he’s tied down for the long term, and we look forward to seeing his development in more detail when he makes the leap to a top 5 European League eventually.
We had good experiences in buying and loaning out a teenage Thibaut Courtois.
Slonina joins Carney Chukwuemeka and Omari Hutchinson as 18 year old talents snapped up by the Blues this summer.
We’re still hoping to add senior experience, but we can’t deny we’re thrilled by this new young group.
