Chelsea move for Barca attacker will be decided this week

The fate of Chelsea’s move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be decided this week, Matt Law has written in the Daily Telegraph today.

He says that the departure of Timo Werner to RB Leipzig, plus any Callum Hudson-Odoi move away, creates a need to sign a new attacker.

But Xavi Hernandez wants to keep Aubameyang, and despite Barcelona’s need to raise money, they know they won’t get anything significant for the 33 year old. Selling Memphis Depay, signed on a free last year, would be a better player to sell if they just want to cash in with a short team injection.

This has always seemed like an unlikely move to us, despite Thomas Tuchel’s previous success with the striker. But Law is a reliable source, and if he says we’re interested, we have to take him at his word.

It seems to be separate from our parallel interest in Frenkie De Jong.
