Chelsea defender given statistical crown in first home game

Kalidou Koulibaly was rated as Chelsea’s best player (with a rating of 8/10) by WhoScored in a game where he played a key role at both ends.

The Senegal defender made a brilliant home debut at the back, keeping Spurs at bay, but it was at the other end where he made his best impact, a beautiful volley direct from a corner which flew into the Spurs net to give his team the lead.

The rest of the game was followed by rock solid defensive interventions, as well as countless brilliant passes between the lines that really started to get Stamford Bridge on its feet.

If he can keep up that quality both in defence and attack, we may well have a cult hero on our hands very quickly indeed. It’s not common to see

Let’s hope this is just the first of many man of the match performances from the Senegal star.
