Chelsea are focused on Tuchel’s “top target” Aubameyang because there are “no obvious alternatives”

Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph is clearly well connected at Chelsea, and he’s always a man whose opinion we trust.

His take on the Pierre Emerick Aubameyang situation today is interesting, and goes some way to explaining a transfer rumour that is quite difficult for us to understand.

According to Law, Chelsea want Aubameyang basically because they know they need a striker, and there are “no obvious alternatives” in the market to the former Arsenal man.

There’s also the Thomas Tuchel factor. The Chelsea boss is a big fan of the Gabon striker, having worked with him before, and apparently has made the now Barcelona forward his “top target.”

We appreciate it’s important to back your coach, but paying big money for a 33 year old seems mad, especially one cast off by Arsenal just 6 months ago.

Can it really be true there are no obvious alternatives? We can think of a few.
