Barcelona’s astonishing dirty tactics could force De Jong to Chelsea

Barcelona asked Frenkie de Jong nicely to leave. Then they told him strictly to leave. Neither worked, and now they’re really getting dirty.

A jaw dropping story in the Athletic today says that the club have found legal issues in the contract which De Jong signed with the previous ownership, and have told him to revert to the terms of the initial deal he agreed upon signing.

In the end, this kind of legal action looks unlikely to work in forcing him out through contractual means. But it is really to serve another purpose – to make staying at the club so unpleasant that De Jong accepts a move elsewhere of his own volition – with both Man U and Chelsea chasing him still.

It’s a dirty move, but this Barcelona look ruthless, and we wouldn’t put it past them anymore. It certainly pushes him another step closer to Chelsea this summer.
