Sporting Director that Chelsea are interested in says he ‘will go back to the Premier League’

Chelsea are currently in the market for a new sporting director at the club after it was announced a couple of weeks ago that Marina Granovskaia was leaving the club.

Marina was well-known in football for being a very tough negotiator, but it appeared that the time was right for her to move on and for Chelsea to look for new blood and fresh faces in the boardroom under the new owners.

Sources: Chelsea optimistic of signing Matthijs De Ligt this summer, should advance this week.

There have been a few names that were mentioned, but one name today has been in the headlines after doing an interview with The Athletic.

Paul Mitchell is currently the sporting director at Monaco, but it sounds like he is one day planning to return to England, and Chelsea would certainly be an option for one of his destinations.

Mitchell says he is enjoying what he is doing in France right now, but he is certainly pondering a return.

“You can never say never,” Mitchell says. “I am from England and one day — I am still relatively a young man — I will go back to the Premier League and to friends and family back there as well.

“But I am still enjoying my work, and while agreements are still in place with the majority shareholder here and the processes of working are still in place, I suspect I am still going to be here.

“But I see it as a great reflection not only of me but the people working here that brands like that are mentioned in the same sentence as myself.”
