One of the fascinating things when your club is involved in transfer discussions with Sevilla is that you get to deal with Monchi, who is not only one of the world’s most famous and successful sporting directors, but also one of the most open when speaking to the media.
The former goalkeeper has been running rings around Chelsea for a year now with our interest in Jules Kounde, and now that the defender has finally completed his move to Barcelona, Monchi has openly spoken about what happened to Chelsea’s bid.

He said that a deal was agreed between Chelsea and Sevilla, and Chelsea and the player, only for the Blues to get cold feet at the last minute. That’s pretty shocking news given how long we chased him.
We’re not sure who should get the blame here, and whether those doubts came from Thomas Tuchel or elsewhere, but either way it’s been hugely disruptive.
