Jules Kounde could sign “later today” for £55m

Chelsea are expected to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla “later today” according to a report in the Times today.

The France defender has been a target for over a year, and almost made the switch to Stamford Bridge last summer, before his club changed their demands and collapsed the deal.

Kounde has remained patient, and will now get his reward. Martin Hardy writes that a £55m deal could go through as soon as this afternoon, after Barcelona gave up hope of matching the Blues’ offers.

The loss of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger was a huge blow to start this summer, but the arrival of both Kounde and Kalidou Koulibaly in the last couple of weeks restores us to at least where we were with the other two in place.

It’s also claimed in the piece that this could be the trigger for Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure – making it seem very likely that Kounde will also back up Reece James at right wing back.
