German giants ‘confident’ they can hijack Chelsea target de Ligt

Over the last 24 hours, German giants Bayern Munich have been thrown into the mix for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, who is Thomas Tuchel’s main target for centre-back, as Chelsea work on their defensive rebuild.

According to the Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella, the Blues could face ‘serious’ competition from Bayern Munich for de Ligt and are ‘confident’ they can ‘hijack’ their bid for the 22-year-old.

It is said Bayern do not want to be drawn into a ‘bidding war’ and instead are working on convincing the player to ‘reject’ a move to Chelsea.

Kinsella then claims the west London side ‘explored’ the opportunity of a swap deal that included both Timo Werner and vice-captain Jorginho, but the Serie A side prefer no counterparts and want a fee paid in full.

It certainly feels like a deal that will come down to who is willing to bid the highest for the defender.

A situation that remains open, but Chelsea need to close and get this deal done.
