We heard earlier this week that Chelsea had started talks with Reece James over a new contract, and that initial report from CaughtOffside has now been backed up in Matt Law’s latest column.
James was brilliant for Chelsea either side of his injury in the middle of the season, and he’s tragically underpaid compared to most of his teammates, given his importance to the team.

He’s more than deserving of a new deal, and it’s vital we get him locked in before other clubs start taking too much of an interest.
We’ve heard talk of Real Madrid interest bubbling away for far too long, and while we’re sure he wants to be loyal and stay at Chelsea, we’ve got to pay him like the superstar he is.
Pay him whatever he wants, Todd, just get him tied down to a long contract as soon as possible. Law says the club have made the first move already, and that’s a start.
