Kai Havertz pips Mason Mount to be Chelsea’s most dangerous league player

Kai Havertz scored for Chelsea against Watford on the final day, a goal that helped his team win, albeit in a game which didn’t mean much.

It did tip him into the lead in one interesting statistic though.

Looking at FBRef’s numbers on Chelsea’s Premier League season, Kai Havertz provided the most (non-penalty) expected goals and assists per 90 minutes.

He has 0.58, with that goal in the final game nosing him ahead of Mason Mount and Timo Werner, who both had 0.56.

It shows that, despite some bad patches, Havertz was effective playing most of the season as a sort of false 9.

He was able to create chances for himself and for others, as the stats show.

It remains to be seen whether we sign a new striker this summer, or persist with Romelu Lukaku, but we’ve certainly seen that Havertz can do a job there when we need him at his best.
