Chelsea ‘monitoring’ RC Lens wing-back Jonathan Clauss

With Cesar Azpilicueta’s future at Chelsea remaining uncertain, the Blues have chosen to look into the market.

Over the last days we have seen reports from France that Chelsea are interested in signing Lens wing-back Jonathan Clauss and today Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella has confirmed this.

Nizzar claims the Blues have been monitoring the France international for ‘well over a year’ and are ‘willing’ to sign him this summer.

The 29-year-old, who has less than a year on his contract is valued at around £10 million by Lens but could face stiff competition from Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

It is seen that Chelsea could ‘accelerate’ a deal for Clauss as soon as Azpilicueta’s future is certain, with Barcelona interested.

Clauss wouldn’t need much persuading to join the Premier League side, as he recently spoke about how he grew up supporting Chelsea:

“Since I was a kid, it’s Chelsea and it remains Chelsea”, he told RMC Sport.

I think this would be a solid signing by Chelsea. He is available at a relatively cheap price and has picked up raved reviews from fans. This deal would certainly make a lot of sense.
