Why Sir Jim Ratcliffe won’t be at Chelsea vs. Wolves

The news today is abuzz with the word that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still clinging on in the race to buy Chelsea.

He went above Raine Group’s heads, direct to Bruce Buck and Roman Abramovich, and while that should rule him out, it seems that once again, the rules are very different for the mega-wealthy.

There has been a lot of chatter that he’s not been ruled out yet, and is still very much in with a chance.

Ben Jacobs, who has covered the sale process for CBS, says that the billionaire won’t be at Stamford Bridge for this week’s game against Wolves because it clashes with the Nantes vs. Nice French Cup final. As the owner of Nice, he clearly needs to show his face there.

Even so, it’s a funny thing to report. Ratcliffe missing a Chelsea game is hardly big news – do we actually know when the last time he attended a game was?

  1. You seemed be biased in your report. The fact that he has not attended a match doesn’t make him a bad owner. It seems like Boehly pays news media to sprout rubbish against his opponents.
