Todd Boehly takeover of Chelsea “very close to completion”

The Todd Boehly bid for Chelsea is “very close to completion” according to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports.

The journalist has been close to this bid all along, and is clearly getting messages from the Boehly consortium – so we trust that this is a first hand, if biased, take on how things are going.

It’s almost a week since the massive Friday where the Sir Martin Broughton and Stephen Pagliuca bids were eliminated, leaving Boehly as the last man standing.

He’s since been in exclusive negotiations with Chelsea to sort out the finer details of the payment.

The curve ball thrown by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid certain added a spicy element to proceedings, but it seems to have been a somewhat fugazi offer, and everything seems to be moving ahead with the Boehly-Clearlake deal despite that.

If this final issue with the debt to Roman Abramovich can be sorted, everything can finally come together.
