Thomas Tuchel sets Liverpool and Manchester City challenge to new Chelsea owners

Chelsea have a busy summer ahead with a number of players looking to leave, two of them already being confirmed.

Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger will both leave this summer at the end of their contracts, and there are more expected to join them.

The new owners, alongside Thomas Tuchel, have a huge task ahead this summer to rebuild the squad, improve it, and try and get them closer to Liverpool and Manchester City in the league.

However, Tuchel feels to do that this summer ‘maybe impossible’ and he probably isn’t far off. It will take a huge amount of smart transfer business to improve this squad to get to the same level as the aforementioned clubs and to do that in one summer, is perhaps realistic.

“It’s maybe impossible, I have to say, maybe impossible,” Tuchel said as reported by The Daily Mirror. “They are improving their squad in every transfer window they have. It seems like we are losing key player. We are losing, of course, Toni, we’re losing Andreas. So this is tough and we already have gap close.”

But maybe Tuchel was just setting a challenge to the new owners with these comments? Maybe it is a message to them? Could be smart, but it’s also very honest.
