Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea man will remain a ‘key figure’ as club aim to extend his contract

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had some words of encouragement to one of his key players this weekend after the disappointment of yet another cup final loss.

It’s been three FA Cup finals in a row now that Chelsea as a team have lost, and you could sense the frustration and deflation amongst the players, coaches, and fanbase after another loss to Liverpool on penalties on Saturday.

Robert Lewandowski’s agent to reignite Chelsea move for his client?

Penalties are cruel and involve a bit of luck either way as well, and it wasn’t Chelsea’s luck as Mason Mount and Cesar Azpilicueta missed their spot kicks to see Liverpool win the trophy.

Of course, social media being the cesspit that it is, abuse for Mount and Azpilicueta from some Chelsea ‘fans’ continued to come in.

Tuchel though, only sees Mount as a key figure and anyone hoping he will be dropped from Tuchel’s line-up anytime soon, will be left disappointed!

And according to The Daily Mirror, Chelsea are going to try and extend his contract this summer as well! Great news.

“The penalty will not change anything on my opinion about Mason,” Tuchel said as reported in the same article. “If you see his record and the importance of the game that he plays consistently for us he is a key figure in this squad and club. He is a super nice guy and we don’t start doubting now because he misses a penalty.”
