Premier League officially approve Chelsea takeover

The Premier League have given their official green light to the Todd Boehly takeover of Chelsea.

The English top flight have just released this statement on their official website regarding the application of Boehly and his Clearlake Consortium bid for the club.

Raine Group – the merchant bank in charge of conducting the sale – were instructed to pick offers that were certain to pass Premier League and UK government approval without issue, given that time is of the essence, so it’s not that surprising that there appeared to be no issues with Boehly’s bid.

The word yesterday was the the government are soon to approve the deal themselves. That means there are no further significant hurdles to overcome, and if all of the complex administrative switches can be made behind the scenes, the deal should be completed well in advance of the expiration of the special operating licence on the 31st of this month.
