Chelsea don’t have a huge amount to play for, knowing that a point from two games is all they need to sort themselves with a Champions League place.
Even so, Thomas Tuchel’s subs have left us really puzzled today.
With the score at 1-1 and in front of a home crowd that has seen some really bad showings in the last few months, he took off N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic and replaced them with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Now Kante for RLC is an attacking sub, more or less. But then taking off a winger for a centre-back? That’s just strange.
With so little to play for, the fans at Stamford Bridge want to see attackers on the pitch and bodies in the box. Tuchel decided not to put any youngsters in his squad, so to follow that by not even chucking some attackers on the pitch is truly mystifying.
