With the exception of Thiago Silva, there aren’t many players in this current Chelsea squad who know more about winning trophies than Mateo Kovacic.
He’s played for one of the most successful Real Madrid teams of recent years, and then came to London to keep up his sensational record.
So we’re inclined to listen to his take on what the Blues need to do to add a Premier League title to his collection. Asked in an interview with the club, he pointed to the absurd consistency of Liverpool and Man City as a reason why it’s proving so difficult to keep up.
As always, the club kept the quotes on their app and didn’t put them on the site, but Absolute Chelsea had them laid out nicely:
Mateo Kovacic:
"So that’s the only thing we need to improve [staying on a high level and not dropping many points]. It’s not easy, but with the manager we have and the players we have, we can do it."

He’s spot on. We’ve shown time and again that we can match both those teams in one on one games, the question is whether we can keep that up for 38 games.
