“It’s important for us to stay together” – Chelsea players had team meeting after Wolves capitulation

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been a real beneficiary of Chelsea’s midfield injury problems this season, and the two months have been an almost unprecedented run of appearances for the academy product.

He’s been consistently excellent in those games, but unfortunately some of his teammates have struggled, and the results haven’t been great.

There has been a run of capitulations and late goals conceded that has cost the team points, and has made the race for the top 4 a genuinely competitive one again.

The team were called in on their Sunday day off by manager Thomas Tuchel, but as Loftus-Cheek explained, it wasn’t a straightforward punishment as some had spun it:

“We went into the training ground the next day and I don’t think the players saw it as a punishment at all. We came in and recovered. Sometimes it’s better to do that when there’s a short turnaround to another game. We had a chat amongst ourselves just to make sure we’re all on the same page and the same wavelength going into the Leeds game. It’s important for us to stay together,” the midfielder said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

They all seem on board with Tuchel’s methods, and if they bounce back today with a good result nobody will be complaining. It’s not going to be easy though – Leeds have everything to play for at a frothing Elland Road and will not give us any mercy.

Let’s hope that team meeting did the trick, and that RLC is ready for another big night.
