Chelsea ready to enter transfer negotiations again after damaging freeze

Today saw Aurelien Tchouameni apparently agree a deal to join Real Madrid, removing one of Chelsea’s top summer options from their shortlist.

It reminded us all how damaging the sanctions currently in place are, as other teams make crucial early moves.

But for those fans despairing, we’ve since had two major milestones in the Chelsea sale – the approval from the Premier League and now the UK government.

That means there are no official hurdles to the sale still left, and the club can effectively start negotiating with teams and players knowing that they will be able to complete deals within a matter of days.

Now, let’s not get carried away here – we still can’t officially sign any documents or make any payments until the new ownership is in place – but that should just be a matter of box ticking now, and negotiations with other clubs and with players can now move forward as it would normally.
