Chelsea have 4 players in top commentator’s “Worst XI” of the season

ESPN commentator Ian Darke has just put a story on their website which lists his best and worst XI of the season.

We weren’t expecting to see too many Blues in the best XI, after a season where Man City and Liverpool dominated, and indeed only Antonio Rudiger made it in.

But we were much more surprised to see an amazing FOUR Blues in the worst XI.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Andreas Christensen, N’Golo Kante and Romelu Lukaku make up the spine of the side, which seems incredibly harsh.

Kepa is being punished for being subbed on in an EFL Cup final, Christensen is being blamed for missing the FA Cup final, Kante is picked because he’s had injury issues and Romelu Lukaku… well, OK, we’ll give you that one.

It’s true that all of those players have had issues, but we can think of far better candidates than them for each position.

  1. It’s Ian Darke.
He probably spent a mere 30 seconds thinking up this waste of space. But he’ll get clicks and presumably advertising revenue, so what does the actual football matter?
    Facile journalism at its best.
