With Chelsea in action right now, including their captain Cesar Azpilicueta, it’s a funny time for transfer rumours.
But AS in Spain have chosen this moment to report that the Chelsea skipper has been offered £210,000 a week to join Barcelona this summer.
The defender’s contract expires at the end of the season, but Chelsea have an option to extend that deal unilaterally by adding a year. However, it is understood that they will still let him leave for free (or for a modest sum) as a reward for his decade of exceptional service to the club.
This report says that the deal has already agreed, but we would have our doubt about whether that agreement is anything more than just a verbal consent. Until Chelsea’s new owners have their feet under the table later this month, nothing can be signed off on, in any case.
Let’s hope this doesn’t affect his performance this afternoon.
