“We’ve got the hunger” – Mason Mount claims Chelsea can get famous Champions League win despite his manager’s pessimism

Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel was extremely negative after the game last night, claiming that his team have no chance in the second leg.

There’s been a bit of debate about this attitude and whether being so defeatist is bad for the players, but at least can see that Mason Mount hasn’t taken it on board.

He is still sure that Chelsea can do it, although he acknowledges it will be a huge task.

“We know how tough it’s going to be at their place and we need to regroup,” Mount said. “It starts today, getting together as a group and then attacking every single game with 100 per cent until the end of the season because every game is a final now,” the midfielder said in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.

“In the League, in the Champions League, FA Cup, any game we play. We’ve got a massive mountain to climb next week but we’re Chelsea. If there’s any team that can do it, it’s us. We’ll give it everything. We’ve got that hunger and desire to really accomplish something.”

The fact that Chelsea went away to Real Madrid and got a result last year will give them some belief, but it’s a very different task now. A year ago they played in an empty training ground and only needed a draw. This time they’re going to a fervent and packed Bernabeu and they will have to win by 2 goals just to go to extra time.

No wonder Tuchel is downbeat.
