Chelsea offers “around £3bn” already according to one of the bidders

Raine Group set a series of deadline for bidders who want to buy Chelsea.

First there was an initial deadline for all bids. They then selected a group of 4 preferred bidders, who had a second chance to up their offer.

Now we’re into a kind of stasis where decisions are still being made, but the various groups can still add members and up their bid in the auction.

That creates the exact kind of auction between serious bidders that Raine Group want, and it seems to be working perfectly for them, tickling the price higher and higher with every week.

According to Jon Smith in his column for CaughtOffside, one of the bidders for the Blues has confirmed that the bids have reached “around £3bn” already, and could go higher as each looks to squeeze out the other.

Whichever way you slice it, Chelsea look set to become the most expensive sports team ever sold.

  1. Surely the higher the price paid for Chelsea, the less money the purchaser will have to invest in the club. The money paid for the club will not go to Chelsea FC
