Chelsea “desperate” for sale as contract situation reaches critical moment

This week we’ve heard from Barcelona president Joan Laporta that the deal to bring Andreas Christensen from Chelsea to his club is essentially done, and then seen actual footage of Antonio Rudiger’s agent in the city meeting with two of Laporta’s directors.

Then there’s Cesar Azpilicueta, also linked with a move to the Blaugrana.

As it stands, we’re about to have the entire heart of our defence walk away for free.

No wonder then that the club are “desperate” to complete a sale to a new owner, according to James Robson in the Evening Standard. As it stands, players can negotiate and sign new contracts elsewhere – but they can’t sign for Chelsea, thanks to the restrictions on the club.

Until the deal is done, players can leave, but they can’t join, and that is an extremely dangerous situation for any team to be in. Let’s hope that major progress was made behind the scenes in this international break.
