Antonio Rudiger is Chelsea’s longest range goal for 15

Antonio Rudiger’s goal against Brentford at Stamford Bridge today was the longest range goal a Chelsea player has scored in 15 years, according to OPTA stats.

Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com reported that it was hit from 39.6 yards out, which is pretty astonishing. What made it even more unique was the way it went in at the near post despite coming from that distance, with sheer speed and some crazy swing on the ball taking it beyond the outstretched David Raya.

We wonder what the previous record holder was? Maybe an Alex free kick or a Belletti screamer? Or Ricky Carvalho against Tottenham? Answers on a postcard, please.

Ok we get it, we got smashed by Brentford at home. But we’ve got to write about something! Let’s hope this game is remembered as a curiosity like the West Brom game of a year ago, and not as the start of a major collapse.
