Reece James picked up minor injury against Burnley

After a long period out, Reece James has had a very hectic return to action.

The right wing back made his return off the bench against Liverpool in the EFL Cup final, where he ended up playing more than an hour thanks to the extra time period.

Then he had another showing off the bench against Luton to keep the minutes flowing in midweek, before making his first start on Saturday against Burnley.

When he was taken off after 70 minutes we assumed it was something of a planned change as the medical staff look to carefully manage his minutes – and it may well have been. But James also revealed in an interview on the official Chelsea website that he had picked up a mild injury in the game.

β€œIt has been a while since I have played in the Premier League and I am happy to be back fit again and to help the team out. I picked up a bit of a knock [against Burnley] but it is alright now and we move on to the next game,” the right back commented.

Given the break from Saturday will be until Thursday when we play out next game, we have no doubt that James will be fit to play from the start once again.

In the interests of caution we may see him taken off before the end once again, with a game this Sunday against Newcastle also on the horizon.
