Petr Cech says Chelsea need to “restart their rhythm” after break

Chelsea have been on a great run since January, and apart from losing on penalties to Liverpool in the EFL Cup final, they’ve won 12 games in a row across all competitions, including lifting the Club World Cup.

The international break came at a bad time for them then, and risks disrupting their nice form, as Petr Cech pointed out in his column on the Chelsea official website.

“We now have two home games in a week and for Brentford, the first will be special because it’s a London derby and in terms of the Premier League, this one has never happened before at Stamford Bridge,” the director of football said.

“Playing there is a different matter for us but after the international break where everybody travels, comes back and you have to switch back to normal for the Premier League, having a home game is usually better because you have your supporters and you don’t have to travel far,” Cech mused.

“It’s one of those games where you have to win to restart the rhythm. You try to start where you left off and we left off with six wins on the bounce so hopefully we can pick that run up and carry on.”

He goes on to point out that having a flurry of games in April is a good thing, as it means you’re into the final stages of the important competitions.

Let’s hope we hit the ground running this weekend against Brentford, and can go into May saying the same things, with major finals to play. There are no international breaks left now, just a chance for the whole team to focus and push onwards.
