Chelsea’s soft run should allow them to secure top 4 before Europe gets too serious

Chelsea have had a patchy start to the year, both in terms of form and in terms of the competitions they have played in.

From the Champions League to the Club World Cup, bouncing back for two FA Cup games and a Carabao Cup final in-between, the Premier League has taken a real back seat since we entered 2022.

But now the EFL cup is done, the FA Cup and Champions League are out of the way for a bit, we can look back towards the league and our position in the table as we look to secure our top 4 status, if not challenge for the title. Finally, our fixture list has started to look favourable. Just glance at our next 6 games:

  • Burnley (A)
  • Newcastle (H)
  • Norwich (A)
  • Brentford (H)
  • Southampton (A)
  • Leeds (H)

There are, of course, no easy gamed in the Premier League. But we are effectively playing most of the bottom 6, plus an in form Southampton side.

This should give us the chance to pick up a lot of points, separate ourselves from the chasing back, so that when the Champions League and FA Cup kick back in, we can focus on them.
