Billy Gilmour continues strong Scotland run – but club doubt keep growing

A bit like Ethan Ampadu before him, Billy Gilmour is having a funny old career where he’s playing more for his country than his parent club, Chelsea.

Gilmour’s loan to Norwich this season has gone a little sour. He fell out of favour with Daniel Farke, who was then fired. New manager Dean Smith has used Gilmour more often, but even he has moved away from him in recent weeks.

The good news is that Billy goes from strength to strength with the national team. He started for Scotland against Poland on Thursday night, and the Herald described him as the “leading light” of that team.

As it stands, he has a great chance of going to the World Cup in Qatar – but where he will be playing his club football at that point is totally unknown, although it looks unlikely to be at Chelsea, unless he wants to spend his whole career on the bench.
