Chelsea begin push to get Harvey Vale to sign new contract

Chelsea have had fresh talks with Harvey Vale over a new, long term contract, according to Simon Johnson’s column in the Athletic today.

The attacker’s current deal expires in the summer of 2023, and the Blues want to make sure he’s committed to them long term before planning out the next stage of his development.

A debut for the first team under Thomas Tuchel against Brentford will have gone a long way towards convincing the teenager that he has a future at the club, as will his cameos off the bench against Chesterfield and Tottenham. It remains to be seen whether they will be followed by another when we play Plymouth this weekend.

He may even get the nod to travel with the first team to Abu Dhabi if the club are really keen to emphasise how much he will be involved going forward.

Thomas Tuchel is understood to want to keep the youngster around for the second part of the season, and several loan bids were rejected. If he signs, we still expect a loan or two in his future – but hopefully only to get him ready for first team action with the Blues.
