“We have to do better” – Thomas Tuchel not entirely happy with Spurs performance despite reaching the final

Chelsea reached the League Cup final last night with a 3-0 aggregate win over local rivals Tottenham.

It was a professional job from Thomas Tuchel’s side really but they dropped off a bit in the second half and it created for some very dangerous moments.

Chelsea got lucky in the end with some good saves from Kepa, and VAR perhaps harshly ruling off an offside goal for Harry Kane despite the rules saying it was offside.

Even still, we rode our luck at times and allowed Tottenham to get back into the game and control periods of it, and Tuchel was not happy with that and our performance overall last night, despite managing to get to Wembley.

“Tonight we started well, created chances, were in control,” Tuchel said as reported by the Chelsea website.

“Once we scored we had more confidence and a very good 30 or 35 minutes. We lost a bit of control, a bit of focus and some important duels. We were lucky not to concede. We were a bit sloppy, not fully aware of the danger and playing with fire.

“In the second half we had a strong start, a good 15 minutes, and then the same story. Suddenly we had trouble to cope with the momentum, many ball losses.

“So there is big space to improve. It was not a super bad game, some minutes were good, but some needed improvement. We have to do better performance wise, but over both matches we deserved to win.”

Tuchel is right, it could have been a totally different story tonight and it it wasn’t for him switching the formation to a back three again to sure things up and regain a bit of control, it could have made for a very nervous last half an hour.
