“We are in talks” – Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea “are looking into the market” this month

Thomas Tuchel has today confirmed that Chelsea are looking into the January transfer market to improve the squad.

The Blues boss was speaking to the press this afternoon ahead of their FA Cup match versus Chesterfield tomorrow evening.

Tuchel has a number of injuries, Covid-19, and fatigue issues to deal with and this has become the norm now at the club after a heavy run of fixtures and bad luck on the injury table.

It is expected that some of the academy players will get the nod from the start or at least from the bench in the Cup tomorrow, but Tuchel’s squad could certainly use some bolstering in one position particular this month.

With Ben Chilwell’s long term injury and Reece James joining him albeit more short term thankfully, Chelsea only have one recognised wing back in the squad who is available – Marcos Alonso.

As reported by Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, Tuchel has confirmed talks are going on and Chelsea are looking into the market.

“We are in talks and discussing the transfer possibilities,” said Tuchel.

“Given the fact we have long term injuries yes we are looking into the market, not under the highest pressure and things have to make sense for us. We will check our options.”
