Thomas Tuchel says Ruben Loftus-Cheek has “a lot to fight for” after Chelsea renaissance

It’s midseason loan update special at Chelsea, with the club  merrily shifting around the players who haven’t been featuring much on their temporary spells so far.

Kenedy is coming back to Chelsea, and there are rumours about squad players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek heading out to play the rest of the season elsewhere.

That idea was put to Thomas Tuchel in his press conference today, and he wasn’t too keen on it. He pointed out that the midfielder has played more this year than he has for years, even just as a squad player.

“Ruben has a lot of game time compared to the last years,” the Chelsea manager said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“He has a lot to fight for here in my personal opinion. This will happen behind closed doors.”

We love to hear that. It’s always going to be tough to start in midfield in a team which plays two in the middle and has three top class options for that position, but Ruben has been good coming off the bench and playing as a rotation option. He’s always learning under Tuchel, and has been relatively injury free this season.

If he’s happy in this role, we’re happy to have him, and it sounds like Tuchel is too.
