Thomas Tuchel name checks one Premier League team making major transfer moves

Every Thomas Tuchel press conference is the same at the moment. First he answers team news questions, then he bats away questions about Chelsea’s transfer plans.

Someone tried to get around it this week by asking him not about his club’s plans specifically, but rather about how the whole league is set to tackle this January.

The question did manage to get Tuchel to name check one club in particular, which was interesting:

“I don’t know, actually. I have the feeling that Aston Villa is busy and finding good opportunities, other teams are maybe happy with what we have. I am in general very happy with what we have. January is always a bit particular, let’s see,” the Chelsea boss said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

Villa have signed Philippe Coutinho on loan, and they also apparently have interest in Lucas Digne, the Everton left back that Chelsea have been linked with.

Maybe that’s why Tuchel picked them out? Either way, he once again played down the chances of Chelsea signing anyone, although he never quite shuts the door on it entirely.

He also doesn’t use these chances to press for signings, as we’ve seen plenty of previous Blues bosses do in the past. That, too, is a welcome break for us from the usual press conference patterns.
