Player Chelsea sold for £3m now worth ten times more

Chelsea had to let Tariq Lamptey leave two years ago because he couldn’t see himself making it to the first team, and with his contract running down the Blues were forced to sell him on the cheap.

They got just £3m for him in the end, and in two years at Brighton he’s already made that price tag look derisory. Despite a bad injury he’s attracting attention from many of the top clubs in the English top flight.

Sussex Live claim that the club are hoping to get £40-50m for the youngster if one of the top teams come in for him, and that’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Nobody is spending that kind of money in the Premier League at the moment outside the very top teams, but in a couple of years the market is likely to have re-inflated a little.

How frustrating for Chelsea, who find themselves with no good options at right back at the moment, with Reece James injured.
