Petr Cech slams Premier League for latest scheduling decision

Petr Cech has made the unusual step of speaking out against the Premier League’s latest decision around Covid scheduling.

There has already been some tension between Chelsea and various administrative bodies as the Blues were forced to play through a wave of Covid infections and injuries; while others were allowed to postpone their games.

Now the issue is a rearranged game coming up later this month.

Because of their participation in the Club World Cup, Chelsea have two games from February that need moving. The Premier League today decreed that the match against Brighton would be played on Tuesday the 18th of January.

As Cech points out in his column today, given both Brighton and Chelsea are already playing on Sunday that week, playing on Wednesday 19th would make sense for both teams, giving players more time for players to recover after their games the previous week.

We can’t see why this date was picked, but we assume there is some obscure PL reason dictated by Asian betting markets or holidays in the US.
