“I’m just fulfilling the contract” – Kenedy surprised by rapid Chelsea return

Chelsea yesterday announced that they have recalled Kenedy from his loan at Flamengo in Brazil, where he made 16 appearances in a rather disappointing 6 months spell.

It doesn’t sound like the ideal setup to come back and play for Thomas Tuchel’s team, but the Blues are short on the left side of their team after an injury to Ben Chilwell, and it’s being assumed that Kenedy has come as backup for Marcos Alonso for the rest of the season.

Kenedy himself doesn’t sound too clear on what’s happening either:

“I was taken by surprise. I found out yesterday night around 11 pm. Everything was very fast,” the left footer said when stopped by the Sun at Rio airport.

“Chelsea had a contract with Flamengo. They asked me to present myself and I’m presenting myself.

“It was Flamengo that told me. I’m just fulfilling the contract.”

It sounds like even he isn’t sure what his future holds. If he had been informed that he was coming back to be second choice left back for the rest of the season, he probably would have been a little more enthusiastic about returning.

As it stands, it looks like he will take up that role, but only if Chelsea can’t find a better option in the next two weeks.
