“I see more confidence” – Thomas Tuchel names the surprise player who will be ‘important’ for Chelsea

Chelsea have a decent sized squad and they have been forced to call upon them all in recent weeks over a busy Christmas period whilst coping with injuries and Covid-19 cases within the camp.

It has shown the importance of carrying a big squad of players and even more importantly, having those players who are good enough to step up when needed.

Saul Niguez had not been one of those players until recently, but his performances in the last few games have finally given Thomas Tuchel and the Chelsea fans reason to trust him and believe that he can help this team in the remainder of the season.

He struggled for a long time to adapt and his performances were nothing better than awful, there are no two ways about it.

But Tuchel has seen differences in recent weeks and says that he sees Saul playing with more confidence and believes he will be an important player for Chelsea.

“I think he [Saul Niguez] will be an important player for us and I hope so as well,” Tuchel said via the Chelsea website.

“The game against Tottenham was a huge step forward for Saul and he showed what he can do with his abilities.

“Against Chesterfield he was part of a strong squad. Okay, it was against a fifth division side so there was no need for us to be overran in midfield but he still did well with his performance.

“I see more confidence in him with each game, he is in good shape and his adaptation to the way we play has gone further from before.

“You can see this in his game now. He is more open, he understands the language better now and these are all important things to consider when talking about Saul and how much he has improved recently.

“He is having much more impact on games than he was doing at the beginning of the season and this is very important because I’m convince we will need every player to compete in every competition from now until the end of the season, especially at the moment where we are playing every three days.”
