“I cannot say anything more” – Cesar Azpilicueta coy on Chelsea future as contract runs down

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has spoken out on his contract situation at the club.

The Blues defender has just 5 months remaining on his current deal and will leave in June unless he agrees an extension with Chelsea. As things stand he is free to agree a pre-contract with other foreign clubs, with alleged interest coming in from his home country in Spain.

Instead of putting it all to bed, in an interview on the Chelsea website yesterday, Azpilicueta actually remained very coy about his future despite claiming he is staying committed to the club as things stand in the short-term.

You may well judge his words differently to me, but for me this doesn’t sound too great and like a guy who will be staying beyond the summer. Anything can happen of course and there is a long way to go on this, but we will see what happens on this one.

“As I always said, I feel I have the trust and confidence of the club and now I am focused on every game,” Azpilicueta said.

“They are very tough games, and I am enjoying the moment. Eventually the moment will come, but I am fully focused on hopefully getting as many trophies as we can and then we will see.

“I cannot say anything more than that I am really committed and have a lot of things ahead in the coming months and hopefully we can have a very good season.”
