Chelsea’s weakness this season summed up with two important statistics

We’re now in the Premier League’s new mini end of winter break, giving us a nice chance to look at the table and some statistics, with most teams having played half of their season.

Chelsea are third in the table as recorded by WhoScored, and also rank third in possession numbers. But interestingly in terms of shots per game they’re level with Arsenal behind Liverpool and Man City.

While Liverpool have a mighty 19.1 shots per game, and Man City follow on 18.3, there’s then a huge drop off to Chelsea and Arsenal, who both have 14.8.

That really sums up where Chelsea have been lacking compared to their rivals this season – turning possession and dominant play into shots, and thereby goals.

The problem is also notable when you consider our top scorer Mason Mount has 7 goals. Liverpool have THREE players above him in the scoring charts.

Let’s hope we can improve that over the next 4 months.
