Chelsea have spent the first 12 days of January asking about recalling left backs from their loans, and it now looks like they’re getting one – although it might not be who you expect.
From the moment Ben Chilwell got injured there has been chatter about the club bringing back Emerson Palmieri or even Ian Maatsen back this month. Both of those deals look tricky – but according to CareFree Youth on Twitter, there is one left back returning.

It’s not related to the Chilwell situation, but Juan Castillo has not been getting enough game time on loan at Birmingham, and will thus be brought back and sent out again somewhere else.
You never know, if he gets a few days in training in between with Thomas Tuchel, he might convince him…
But with plenty of time left in the window to secure another deal, that would truly be a last resort in the circumstances.
