Ben Chilwell got injured in November, and Chelsea have been in dire straits ever since. So if we told you the club had had an offer accepted for a left back, you might well think “about time, we’re 21 days into January.”
That is indeed the case, but confusingly, there’s a twist.
Word is coming from Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com that the Blues have had an offer accepted for Dylan Williams of Derby.
It turns out the club is indeed Chelsea but it isn't quite a done deal.
Understand the Blues are in advanced talks for Derby County's Dylan Williams, per @reluctantnicko.
It's to fix a problem position at left wing-back in the academy teams. https://t.co/lrjuthxS1F

Just 18, the youngster has started breaking into the Derby senior team with 4 league appearances for the Rams this season. But Chelsea are signing him for their youth team, rather than the senior side.
It’s all rather confusing, perhaps just a coincidence. But it just adds to fans’ frustrations when they feel that the club isn’t moving with half the urgency required to help out Thomas Tuchel for the rest of this season.
Perhaps this frees up Lewis Hall for more first team minutes – but even that is hardly an ideal solution.
