Chelsea get double blessing of another easy FA Cup draw

Chelsea’s win over Chesterfield in the FA Cup third round this weekend looked like it was going to be a bit of a nightmare – but instead it was all rather convenient.

With a squad close to full fitness, Thomas Tuchel was able to rest his first team, while giving important minutes to rusty players. That wouldn’t have been the case if we were playing a top team.

All the better then, that we’ve draw Plymouth Argyle at home in the next round. It should be a similar setup – no need to travel, a game at the Bridge for the squad players and a couple of youngsters sprinkled in.

Chelsea have not played Plymouth since 1989, and the seaside team are currently in League 1 – a significant step up from Chesterfield.

With the league slipping away, it’s looking more and more likely that the FA Cup will be a key chance for silverware for us.
