Chelsea are in desperate need of a left back to come in and cover for the rest of the season while Ben Chilwell is out injured. But it’s not easy to loan in a player when you’re a top club like Chelsea. Other teams aren’t willing to let their good options go, unless you pay a massive loan fee – at which point you might as well sign them outright, even if just to sell them on later.
Their easiest option was to recall Emerson from his loan at Lyon, but he has no clause in his deal to allow them to do that, and according to Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com’s latest update, the Blues are struggling to find any common ground with the French side.
There's been no progress on bringing Emerson back from his loan.
Lyon want him to stay unless they get a very large compensation offer.
Kenedy is not seen as an ideal wing-back solution. #CFC exploring bringing in someone on loan but it isn't easy to find a suitable option. https://t.co/VMTgnDBQ63

Kenedy has been recalled, but is apparently not seen as particularly viable as an option. If he plays for us at any point, he won’t then be able to go out on loan for the rest of the season.
Once again, we’re in a bit of a pickle – and will hopefully be putting watertight recall terms into our loan deals from now on.
