Chelsea defender is latest Covid positive ahead of Manchester City game

Andreas Christensen has tested positive for Covid, Thomas Tuchel has just announced in his press conference ahead of the Man City game tomorrow.

The defender will now miss tomorrow’s game against Manchester City and the midweek game against Brighton. Even if he’s totally asymptomatic and is testing negative on Tuesday, assuming the positive was from this morning, he won’t be able to play, even under new government guidelines.

Before we worry about next week though, we need to think about tomorrow’s game. Trevoh Chalobah is still out, meaning Thomas Tuchel is going to have to pick at least one defender outside his favoured four. Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger are certs to play, but with Chaobah and Christensen out, we could well see Malang Sarr step up for a Premier League game.

The alternative is Azpi playing in the middle with Callum Hudson-Odoi or Christian Pulisic at right wing back, which seems more risky.
