Hakim Ziyech was supposed to already be with Morocco at the AFCON, instead he played a key role as Chelsea beat Tottenham last night, and looks set to play significant minutes over the next few weeks.
Now we’re not going to go into why he’s not there – we just don’t know the ins and outs of the situation. But what we do know is that we’re very grateful that the winger is available for us.
The focus had always been on what a blow losing Edouard Mendy would be, and it may yet sink our season, but having Ziyech at the club is a huge boost.
Not only do we have him ready like last night – motivated and versatile – but we also have him as a body to relieve the exhausted first team legs which are all playing through exhaustion right now.
Mason Mount may well still be Thomas Tuchel’s first choice on the right wing, but he will be so much more effective for the rest of this season if he doesn’t have to play every game.
