Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea’s fatigue problems will come against Leeds not Zenit

Thomas Tuchel is the latest of his press conferences, this one coming ahead of the game against Zenit St Petersburg tomorrow.

He was asked about the busy schedule his team are facing, and whether this will mean a heavily rotated team tomorrow, and he agreed that he was likely to change things around.

But he also noted something interesting – after playing the early kick off on Saturday, his team will have had plenty of rest when they take on the Russian team tomorrow night.

The issue will be on Saturday, when they have had to fly long distance back and play at 3pm against a team who have had all week to prepare. He noted the Whites’ intensity on and off the ball, something they can afford given they don’t play twice a week.

“We had an early game against West Ham and then a late game against Zenit. We had a day off and good training session today. We can let anybody play of the 17 players plus goalkeepers we have,” Tuchel said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“The problem is the next match on Saturday because we will lose time to sleep, arrive back very early on Thursday, and then we face an intense team in Leeds who have prepared to face this match.”

It’s like he’s already setting us up for another disappointing result, although he’s absolutely right.
